From railroad town to textile center to Race City, USA - through years of change Mooresville has kept a strong sense of its past. The city is now home to more than 60 NASCAR teams and racing related businesses including Dale Earnhardt, Inc., and Penske Racing South. The North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame is located in Mooresville and serves as the official visitor's center. It is also home to NASCAR's NASCAR Technical Institute.
If you¿re not quite up to speed with racing, then Mooresville won¿t leave you at the recreational starting line. The city operates nine parks, seven tennis courts, eight basketball courts, six lighted ball fields and a lighted gym for a variety of sports. Classes are regularly scheduled for youth and adults in creative arts, athletics and fitness. Additionally, the 50,000-square-foot Lowe¿s YMCA has something for everyone to enjoy.
